About AAHD

About us

The Argentine Association of Digital Humanities (AAHD) was founded in March 2014, after a series of meetings at the National University of La Plata and the Institute of Philology and Hispanic Literatures “Doctor Amado Alonso” that came after the first call to start a DH Association at the Argentine National Library, on September 27th, 2013. In fact, everything had started a few months earlier at the THATCampBuenos Aires, on July 22nd of that same year.

Since that first THATCampBuenos Aires, the AAHD has been working as a community of practice interested in addressing the complexities of the impact of the digital in research and teaching in the Humanities and the Social Sciences.

We have also worked in understanding the multiple areas of interest with Computer Science, Libraries, Information and Communication Technologies, studies on Science, Technology and Society, or the Open and Citizen Science, among many other disciplines and fields of knowledge. Nevertheless, it could also be just said that the AAHD is a meeting point. From this perspective, it proposes to analyze the social, cultural and political context in which the Digital Humanities crystallize.

In Argentina, the Humanidades Digitales have led to the development of different lines of research and to the creation of a diverse community that circulates their theories, practices and new objects of study, not only within the Academy but also in peripheral areas, through collaborative spaces and methodologies. Thus, global guidelines intersect with local conditions, giving rise to new experiences that progressively define the field.

AAHD brings together stakeholders from many fields: Literature, History. Education Sciences, Journalism, Librarianship, Communication Sciences, Computer Science, Sociology, Anthropology, and anyone who is interested in thinking from the intersection of the Humanities and methods that involve the use of the digital.
